Tips for Better Travelling This Summer

Enjoy a healthy, safe and memorable vacation! When the temperatures soar and the school bells ring for the last time, you know that vacation is just around the corner. You might be headed for the family cottage or a campground and are looking forward to swimming, boating, hiking or fishing. There are a few factors that we recommend you keep in mind when preparing to enjoy this sunnier time of year.

Packing Up

Consider what you’re packing when it comes to proper pillows for sleeping. If you’re camping, it’s important that you have an air mattress to cushion your spine. When you’ve gotten everything you need into your suitcase, remember to lift properly using your legs and to bend at the knees instead of straining your back.

En Route

You may be settling into the car for a road trip. Before you leave, consider dialing 511 to check on road closures that may interfere with your plans. Outside of Ontario, you can dial 1-866-929-4257. Google “compass”for 400 highway series information in the greater Toronto area.

It’s important to take breaks (micro breaks) every 60-90 minutes. Get out of the car, stretch your arms and legs and do shoulder rolls, reach for the sky and pump your fists to get your blood circulating. Make sure to pack some snacks and water to keep you hydrated.

Another car essential is an emergency road kit and a first aid kit so that you’re prepared whether a passenger or your vehicle is in trouble.

Remember to fully charge your cell phone before leaving in case of emergency.

Enjoy a healthy, safe and memorable vacation!
